Amuro Namie Hero single release

Amuro Namie Hero CD DVD single release with first press posterWhat better way to get into the mood and excitement of the 2016 Rio Olympic Summer Games, than by kicking it off with a theme song which captures all of the epic pageantry and stature of the games themselves!!

As we sit just hours now from the opening ceremonies in Rio, Amuro Namie released just last week on July 27th…. her celebratory theme for these Games of the XXXI Olympiad in collaboration with NHK which will serve as broadcast host in Japan. First press orders receive this gorgeous B2 sized poster photographed just above/right and while Amuro Namie’s production team has long been a standard of sparing no production expense when it comes to her single releases, I must say that they truly have outdone themselves with this production of “Hero” as the visuals here so evoke that grandeur which are the Olympic Games.

However, it’s all about this song first and foremost and it so delivers!~! Okay so I must emphasize that “Hero” so deserves a good set of headphones in order to fully appreciate this larger than life musical production. Even from the simplicity of its opening piano notes… here they ring thunderous then building upon acoustic layer upon acoustic layer as even the chorus highs and lower rhythm sections resonate in deep tribal~harmony as if recorded within the walls of the Colosseum.  Okay I may be stretching the walls of recording technology =P, but really with a good set of headphones “Hero” really was recorded in an awe inspiring manner. And most importantly!….. it’s a love at first listen kind of catchy song!! A feel good and ultimately uplifting melody which really captures the essence and imagination of these, the ultimate Games~.

And here the coupling song is treated to all of amenities of a double-A side as “Show Me What You’ve Got” gets its very own lavishly produced music video too! Oh and how night and day could it possibly be when placed beside the title track? Let’s just say that while the headliner in “Hero” takes the viewer into a realm of heightened GOLD, its sibling will take you inside of the “after winning the GOLD/ all access” party bus!~! Well, you know, what such a party may look like that is =). One part stoic Amuro Namie, one part let yourself loose Amuro Namie…. and at that, a candid and giddy side to close this amazing single. ^^

    WOW.
Hero is perfect for the Olympics. And pretty darn good for my ears too. I listened to this with my headphones, as per your suggestion, and definitely made out a lot of subtle notes and arrangement going on in the mix. Also, this is classic Namie. It’s a Classic Namie sounding verse, Classic Namie sounding chorus repeated to infinity, and then there’s even a catchy break with clapping that I hoped would’ve kept going forever. The weird time change a few minutes into the song, the start and stopping, all this makes for a really great listen too. Not sure if you noticed or not, but Hero sounds and feels like Contrail. This is most definitely a good thing, for me at least, being that Contrail is one of my all time favorite Namie songs.
The coupling song I didn’t get a chance to listen to because it didn’t work on your blog for me. I tried twice but didn’t seem to get past a few seconds. The same thing happened with your last installment of LV, though I was able to get around that by watching it on my phone (So that must mean it’s a browser issue as you had mentioned.). Anyway, happy to have heard HERO because I am a HUGE, huge, huge fan of the Olympics. I’ve watched them every single time they’ve been on since I was a young child. I never miss an event. I’m more partial to the winter olympics, but this year is going to be epic, and I can’t wait to see how my country and Japan does, the two I always root for. I’m so pumped!!! Thanks for posting this. Namie is beautiful, her voice soars in Hero, and Rio here we come!!!!!

I’ve noticed in both Chrome and Firefox that it plays just fine, but when I hit the “HD” button it stops. After I reload the page it plays the HD just fine.

Thank you for your feedback! I’ve also asked friends to check on the video playback here and everything appears to play okay. I’m thinking that something on Derek’s end is amiss when playing the videos here, really worrisome.

Truly an epic sound captured here! And I love all of the tribal rhythmic and chorus touches which gives it for lack of a better way of saying….. an international feel which is most appropriate. Just a couple more days until the start and hopefully I’ll be able to avoid any spoilers as we always get these on a delay daily here.

Hmm, that is worrisome with your video playback issues. Strange thing is that I’ve tried out the Long Vacation videos and this coupling with music video here in this post and I’ve additionally asked a few friends to try them out too and no one else seems to have any issues playing any of them =/, In fact they all buffer really quickly, “Show Me What You Got” buffered completely to the end of the song within about 20 seconds or so. If you’ve already switched over to Firefox I’m not sure what it could be, but it’s something on your end of things, really puzzling. You are using Wifi I’m assuming so Firefox shouldn’t have any issues and I hope there’s a way for your streaming to work okay soon.

Your mention of Amuro’s chorus sections tending to have a repetitious nature reminded me that you mentioned to me awhile back when about you got into her music and while Amuro’s R&B and hip-hop genres are great, I think you’d find it immensely rewarding to delve into her much earlier true J-pop songs. She also went through a brief techno phase and incidentally that was precisely when her career skyrocket into fame….with “Try me~Watashi wo shinjite~.” Still her true j-pop songs and early dance tracks have a most beloved following and recommended at the top for both genres would be: “Kanashiki Broken Boy”, “Stop the Music”, “Taiyou no season” (Salsoulike Mix) way cooler than the regular version I think!, “Paradise Train”, “Dancing Junk” a really cute song!, “Mister U.S.A.” and of course a most impressive ballad and especially when you consider just how young she was when she sang this! …..that being “Rainbow Moon.” I know you’re often times very hesitant to give older J-Pop a try but I really hope you’ll make an exception here =):

Yeah, more Amuro chan stuff to listen too! For some reason, I’m fiercely protective of the songs I like about her and the songs I don’t like…dunno why that is. She just resonates with me more than most musicians. Kind of how I feel about Utada Hikaru too, in a way, though I don’t think I’ve ever heard a single song by her I didn’t like. She might be my time favorite musician from Japan, but I just can’t tell Perfume that lol.
Anyway, I love techno music and Japanese girls singing with techno as their backing music, so if Amuro chan has done techno in the past that I somehow missed, I am all for hearing it. I have heard a lot of her stuff, but not a lot before the last few albums she has released. Maybe like the past five or so? Not sure if that’s an even accurate estimation. I’ve been listening to her for a long time though, it seems right to say. But this post you sent me the link to might have some gems on it that I’ll appreciate. Thank you for sharing it and as usual, I’ll share my thoughts on it as well. I’m still going through your other post too with Hirano Aya. A little at a time.

I’m rooting for the Republic of Nauru this time. It might be the last Olympics for that country if sea levels continue to rise.

    • Friday’s the opening ceremonies!~! I always like to watch the entire opening, just to see all of the countries represented and their flag bearer of course,

Ehhh? Is it really that bad =(. Polar caps are melting at an alarming rate and the water has got to go somewhere, plus it must be causing all of this extreme weather we’ve been experiencing each year more and more.
