Just released on November 4th, Ohara Sakurako’s now fourth single features a triple tie-up promotion with its title track being featured with the new “Chibi Marukochan” film and while this single is presented as a double A-side with both its title track and main coupling with song being featured here each with their own music videos, “Special day” also deserves a most honorable mention as well.
As per usual a double~A side still requires the purchase of at least two versions in order to acquire both MVs as they’re included exclusively on singles types A and B, however there is an extra incentive here as each music video also includes a making of clip as well. Now you may have needed to do a bit of a double take above and in seeing Sakurako~chan’s new single covers as her styling for each A-side has a vastly different dynamic as to what fans have been most accustomed to till now. And while both have Sakurako~chan moving away from her prior folk/rock appearance, the overall approach here is one of cool and sexy and that works right down to her wardrobe choices as well! Now not to worry as while a production may be able to take the acoustic guitar out of Sakurako~chan’s hands for a bit, they still can’t take her love of the folk/rock genre out of her heart ….and right on cue is the opening title track “Kimi wo wasurenaiyo” which is pure folk~rock~ballad bliss!~! And even while its main coupling with song “Dear My Dream” ventures Sakurako~chan into the genre of upbeat pop~electronica …..her voice truly still makes it her very own as her trademark range, power and vocal nuances make this move outside of her wheelhouse yet very seamless.

However psssst! Track 3 may just be the very best of them all!! Right from its initial notes, “Special day” breaks out the brass and oozes that sort of happier than happy “Swing out sister” sort of euphoria ….haha sorry if suddenly mentioning Swing Out Sister out of the blue feels a bit offbeat here but I pretty much associate the only songs I know by them as being this whole happy~vibe of existence like for instance their most catchy song in “Break out” ^^! And while I may have spent a decent amount of time in diapers during the eighties I do so love this decade of music~♥ =).

The simplicity of this MV so suits this lovely heartfelt ballad, and while it features only two main scenes the ambiance of lighting is truly its charm ….and yet while you watch its making of (included a bit further down from here) you then realize just how much goes into even a much “simpler” project. Sakurako~chan’s voice soars with a uniqueness all its own, one built for powerful ballads? ..you bet!

And here’s Sakurako~chan’s venture into pop~electronica and this music video’s soooooo much fun!~! First the location with its all glass exteriors and that giant umm thingy up atop makes for the perfect settings for this tech savvy production. Add in a good dose of cool stop~motion styled shots complete with cotton~ball clouds and pedestals …..a trampoline, lots of running and dynamic track running cameras and it’s a don’t blink or you’ll miss it visual! And Sakurako~chan’s styling vibe here, in wardrobe, make-up and hairstyling ….so so soooo so gorgeous ^^.
