Sometimes our surroundings and society itself becomes our enabler…. beckoning the darkness to stay even as we strive tirelessly for the light~*.

(Consider this a lead-up post to my final installment of Ikewaki Chizuru shashinshuu posts which will be launched here shortly, that being the third photo book of hers being featured here ^^.  If you’ve been visiting here for awhile then you’ll readily know of my respect and adoration for Ikewaki Chizuru as she’s an amazing actress who’s choice of roles throughout her career include a road less traveled approach so to speak as her cinematic and drama career has included very memorable and at times controversial characters which has revealed time and time again of her willingness to be bold in her craft. To view an assortment of Ikewaki Chizuru posts written here over the years you can search under her name in the little “search” box located to the upper right sidebar near the top of this blog.)

A father’s life changing condition leaves a family to live in poverty….the film opens with an emotionally stressed Tatsuo (Ayano Go….very cool! and handsome actor I might add! ^^♥) whom awakens in a drab and unkempt room as visions from his past continue to haunt him in dreams. A chance encounter in a gaming room on any given day….Tatsuo and Takuji (Suda Masaki) meet. Chance leads to an attraction as Tatsuo encounters an instant attraction in Chinatsu/ Takuji’s sister (Ikewaki Chizuru♥). Bearing the burden of livelihood left behind by her ill father, Chinatsu sells her body and in a darkened search for salvation, an adulterous relationship forms a bridge with potentially dire consequences. Tatsuo lives his days in a walking daze often times drinking too much and through intermittent reoccurring nightmares his past is unwoven making sense of today’s light. Tatsuo and Chinatsu’s relationship seems destined to dark shadows as the dynamics of Takuji;s past, Chinatsu’s abusive affair and an air of hope~* in Tatsuo’s very being are each set on a cruel collision course, one that will before long bear witness to a darkest of souls and how a girl’s life which hope has long since abandoned will ultimately be tested at the gates of tragedy and redemption as sometimes the fates will have all roads leading to a singular destination. A place where the light never shines~*, however maybe….just maybe this once.

This film will truly engulf the viewer into the harsh realities of poverty, temptation, hope and a darkness you truly won’t be able to un~see (today’s made up word =)!)…. a really remarkable film with stellar actors and a well paced and memorable direction not to be missed by cinematic and drama lovers alike!

Hi mb. Finally getting round to checking out your recent posts… This looks great! I really enjoy this sort of relationship movie/drama. Annoyingly, the subbed version is hugely expensive from Amazon (where it’s called ‘The Light Shines Only There’), but you never know, it may turn up cheaper at some point. There’s a great online store based in California that has a lot of imported goodies in its catalogue, so there’s a good chance it will be sold by them at one point.

    • A word of warning though as this is a pretty heavy movie which really stays with you afterwards as the storyline overall and particular scenes are just so powerful. A theme about the dark trials overcoming and how human nature and how one’s surroundings can push back against one’s will. Chiichan’s role here in particular is just Wow!…not an easy role to perform by any means and with the theme of light the director really manages to use both visual light/darkness as well as circumstantial light/darkness to tell the story so profoundly. I ended up getting the version on Cdjapan as the deluxe version includes an additional disc with premier footage along with a photo book which I used for the images in this post…really worth it although I will say that this is not a happy movie…rather it’s drama at it’s most memorable and dark. The previous movie I watched starring Chiichan “Oishii Man” which you mentioned awhile back proved to be a bit too non-eventful for lack of a better way of saying it….I mean the acting was overall very good and the film even had some poignant moments of humor in it but I really couldn’t recommend it =/. This film on the other hand will definitely leave an impression not soon or ever forgotten.

Thanks for the drama warning! I’ve watched quite a few relentlessly gloomy movies in my time, so hopefully I’ll be prepared for this one! A shame that Oishii Man was a non-event. btw, have you ever watched this: http://www.amazon.com/Dolls-Miho-Kanno/dp/B0007GADXQ/ref=sr_1_30?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1441987266&sr=1-30&keywords=dolls Visually, it’s stunning. Quite a low key movie, and occasionally puzzling, but the stories are interesting enough. Also, it stars both Kanno Miho and Fukada Kyoto. I’m guessing you’ve watched it already!

        • And good morning to you Philip♥!…or rather it’s early evening there =). Having sort of a Ferris Bueller’s Day Off today…not proud of it but I just needed some me time, selfish I know xD.

Oh yes I have the Dolls DVD!! And that’s the very first impression is just how rich the visual are…so amazingly directed! And with both favorite’s Kanno Miho and Fukakyon present it was eating away at my curiosity to see it…gosh I hadn’t thought about this film in years.

Up a bit earlier to watch the Women’s semis at the U.S. Open, now preparing to watch Serena continue onto history!!!!!!! I hope she can do it! Only two Italian players stand in her way now for a calendar Grand Slam~*~~*.

I love Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, but haven’t seen that for years. Now I want to watch it! I’m going to have to find a copy… Unable to find season 9 of Friends. It’s somewhere, but where? In the meantime, have just started re-watching 90210. Also up to season 4 of Gilmore Girls, which was a great show. Must get season 3 of Cheers and continue with that. I guess you’re almost at the end by now? The first 3 seasons of Frasier might be a good next move, as it boasts a witty script and explores the same themes of Cheers, with Frasier and his brother’s snobbery at the centre of the fun.

            • I just have the DVD of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and interestingly it’s on Blu-ray now however I wonder how much better it could possibly look even if it were to be “Blu-ray~ed??” The movie should be really low priced, I’d try Amazon first…and if you have PRIME then it’s really low priced! =) Do you mean it’s lost somewhere in your home? I know I keep beating this thought like a dead horse (whatever that means =P!) but Friends is a series I can watch over and over and then over again and I truly have!! I mean from start to finish and then again from start to finish…it’s just such a perfect show and that was a good decade of life…it took me from my early teens up until my early 20’s, sometimes I wish I were that young again but on second thought that’d mean doing some very dumb things all over again as well xD. I remember Beverly Hills 90210 =P!…I was like 10 years old and was having impure thoughts about Jason Priestly =)!~! I used to have their calendar on my wall and posters…I was seriously obsessed! I’ve not seen the reboot 90210 though but I imagine it must be very different from the original series? Un we’re now watching Cheers season 7 so still a ways to go however I don’t want it to end like ever!! Such great dialogue and characters and I’ve laughed so much it’s great! I’ve really grown to like Frasier’s character now that he appears much more frequently than before and his now wife Lilith is the BEST!!!!!!!!!! Funny how they naturally torment each other and yet they’re a match LOL =).

Lilith is an amazing creation. She’s surely a relative of Amy from Big Bang Theory. She appears in Frasier a few times, but not nearly enough. Frasier loses its way after about season 4, although saying that, there’s on ongoing story about Frasier’s brother and their dad’s live-in physiotherapist to keep your interest. Yes, Friends is lost somewhere in the house. I may have accidentally boxed it up, so will search for it sometime. Season 9 has one of the funniest moments, for me, when Monica pays Chandler a surprise visit in Tulsa and catches him enjoying… a documentary on sharks?! I was chuckling for days after it was first shown on TV. I enjoyed Beverley Hills 90210, although I didn’t watch it religiously. The reboot is very polished and fast-moving with some engaging storylines. It also manages to send itself up, too. Season 1 was sponsored by Dr Pepper, so hilariously, cans of the drink frequently appear in shot!

                • Both Lilith and Frasier have been appearing much more frequently in Cheers as we’ve progressed through the series and I so love their characters the more I see them! How and why they’re attracted to each other is quite the mind bender…. so funny!! Ohhhh an all time favorite episode and moment for me on Friends would be the Brad Pitt episode during that one Thanksgiving!!!! And how his dislike was initially thought to be a smoldering attraction towards Rachel! The I hate Rachel Club …with Ross of course and some exchange student whom didn’t even know what the club was =P. I can watch that one over and over and still crack up so much!~! You gotta love how advertising manages to make its way into every inch of pop culture these days =)

            • And on an unrelated note yet again….have you been watching Mr. Federer as of late? It’s like he’s gone back in time to his peak!~! I mean he’s playing like he’s #1 again albeit he’s just a notch below @ #2 but sill it’s been amazing seeing him recapture his top form once again as I think people were beginning to doubt if he’d ever seriously compete for Grand Slams again. On Sunday it’s the Men’s final as he’ll do battle against Mr. Djokovic, I’ll be rooting with all of my heart for Federer to win!!!!!!!!!!! Oh and he’s doing this new thing lately tactical wise as he now sneak attacks on his opponent’s serves but they never know when it coming as he unexpectedly rushes the net and does this impossible half-volley and it works quite often too! =) He’s also been serving and volleying much more which is wonderful to see…..it seems like a nearly lost art form of the game and it’s great to see tennis played that way again. Federer for the WIN I pray!!!!!!!

Back in 2009 when I was still subscribing to Tennis magazine there was this great issue on the debate of just how great is Federer?….the GOAT? Or Not the GOAT? I just remembered it here:

              https://morningberryz48.wordpress.com/2009/09/01/the-greatest-of-all-time/

Sure the stats and arguments may have evolved since then, but if you have any thoughts on the write-up there please do share~♥ @ the post linked above ^^.

I’ve not been following the US Open very closely, though do know that the Great Man is on brilliant form. I really would like him to win. If he does, I suspect I’ll hear your cheering from here! I enjoyed your post and left a comment!
