Idols unzipped...

Gadget

Happy Aloha~♥ Friday from sticky, hot and humid and very very moist paradise, well the weather hasn’t been paradise as of late as in for the past entire week! Let’s see….on Monday it stormed inches of rain all across the state for hours which caused heavy flood areas and flash flooding and then on Tuesday more rain, thunder, lightning and then a power outage here!! =(….and then on Wednesday more rain and humidity and yet another power outage here =(!!!…..yesterday dried out a bit but there was still rain and more heat and inevitable sweating everywhere! =/!!!!…..and now today it’s been relatively dry although those dark and daunting skies haven’t left us for a minute which shows a promise of more rain not to mention now a hurricane which is quickly approaching the state with a possible Monday~Tuesday arrival here =(!!!!

However between power outages and immense sweating all over (not a very sexy thing unless I guess you’re having sex during the immense sweating (。ーωー。)笑!)…..I did manage to complete a couple of things here including a concert (hopefully) enticer~!~! as well as this week’s Idols♥ Unzipped which I present to you here first ^^.

Idols♥ very much like beauty while timeless go through fashion trends and the like being a sign of the times and with each issue presented here each Friday I’ll be selecting a few articles to scan to give a visual and text so you’ll be able to see the ever changing evolution of idols♥ in a chronological timeline of sorts. Check in each Friday for more from this once again!…ongoing series =).

UTB Vol.63 February 1996 issue (1)

UTB Vol.63 February 1996 issue

So tonight we’re going back to yet again one of my older issues of UTB as this one dates back to February 1996, the covergirl here is former idol/pop star (more on that on a later date as I plan to share some of her music releases here which I’d collected back then…) and actress…Tomosaka Rie. She really has some wonderful pop songs, my most favorite~♥ being the one titled about sneezing =P!…that I’m sure J-Pop fans of the 90’s are going to love so Yes we’ll have that on a later date for sure ^^. UTB’s binding is excellent so putting pressure on their magazines while scanning is pretty forgivable albeit getting this publication’s flat spine style to lay flat across a scanner can be quite the task, so I apologize for the edges being a bit blurred here and there as I tried to scan the pages as best I could =).

This issue also features: Kanno Miho (her J-pop career already featured in a post here from awhile back)/ cutie idol Enomoto Kanako whom also went onto an acting career after the most brief stint w/ J-Pop…after all, all idols should sing right? =P/ Sakai Miki whom also ventured into a J-Pop career….am I beginning to sound like a broken record yet?? xD/ New Year’s special Idol presents~♥! And who doesn’t love getting gifts??! Some of those pictured that I’d most love to have gotten would be Amuro Namie’s signed poster which features her AWESOME!!! single “Chase the Chance” which is the theme song for the drama “The Chef”….. Mochida Maki (whom also ventured into J-Pop with awesome results!!! Quite a few posts about her here including a couple which cover her of so so good songs ^^) signed concert pamphlet! And I love that it features a sketch of her as she’s like the cutest little J~Pop girl ever! …..and how about that Ayu (Hamasaki Ayumi) autograph!!!……or how about a Nishida Hikaru outfit right out of her 1994 calendar as in she wore it for that photo shoot!! Gosh idol goods were quite awesome back then you’d have to say ne!….I’d also soooo love to have gotten Miura Rieko’s personalized potpourri….or Haneda Erika’s personalized face towel!…..and while Takahashi Yumiko’s lot of fan presents may take first prize here as she has quite the assortment of goodies~♥!!….Enomoto Kanako has an oh so cute plushy in there!!!…..okay so I want them all =P!!!..anyway check out those idol goodies giveaway pages as they’re quite the eye opener!/ Sakai Noriko interview~!! / Mochida Maki 1st concert news/ Cooking w/ Ide Kaoru!/ Hazuki Riona pictorial/ And have you ever wondered what it’d be like to see Ayu being all idol~ly like, you know long before her ascent to J-Pop royalty?? Well check out her pictorial here…..you may have not imagined Ayu as being UTB material until now =)!/ Horie Nana pictorial….and I love her Hawaiian inspired floral one piece she’s wearing there!~!/ The latest in music & movie releases…..and check it out! it’s Zard’s awesome single “My Friend” featured there!!!/ And UTB used to regularly feature idol fan club info…..here amongst some of my notables would be the likes of Wink, Enomoto Kanako, Sakai Noriko, Sakai Miki, Kudo Shizuka, Sakurai Tomo, Shinohara Ryoko, Seto Aska, Tanimura Yumi, Tomosaka Rie, Nagasaku Hiromi, Nakayama Miho, Nishida Hikaru, Miura Rieko, Haneda Erika, Mizuki Arisa, Moritaka Chisato, Moriguchi Hiroko & Yamaguchi Sayaka….you know I’ve not been a fan club member before, I wonder what one would’ve received being on any of those?/ Kato Noriko pictorial where she’s got a most gigantic bear~plushie~♥!!!…and you most likely recognize her from either her acting career or perhaps as co~MC on several Hello! Project concert events…? But Kato Noriko also had a (surprise!! =P) J~Pop career too way back then!!!! She had some really cute and memorable songs too, another posting here I will get to! ^^/ Hirose Nao pictorial and anytime you get a doggie into the mix it’s Awwwww~♥!/ and lastly a Uchida Yuki pictorial…..model, actress and Yes of course former J-Pop star! and I do have her CDs to prove it ^^.

This I take it was an early incarnation of the later updated “inevitable idol butt photo” which could one day become the standard in recognizing whether an idol’s shashinshuu is legit or not (。ーωー。)笑!

Hi mb! What a truly amazing issue! This is jam-packed with the mid-90s stars, including quite a few favourites of mine (I spotted Tanimura Yumi on page 85). You are so fortunate to have these wonderful magazines. Sakai Miki had only the year before appeared in Love Letter (one of my favourite movies ever!), hadn’t she. I just checked, and see that she’s still very busy as an actress. I love her music a lot, as I believe you do too. Thank you for scanning and sharing. I guess if a person lived in Japan, it would be fairly easy to find copies of these magazines? I know that over here, back issues of old movie and music magazines are fairly easy to come by, although special issues are always more expensive. (As for used National Geographics, they crop up too: I’ve amassed several decades’ worth and can’t part with them, even though they’re taking up valuable room!)
Sorry to hear about your extreme weather. Sadly, it’s cool and fairly miserable here. Maybe it’ll warm up again. It sometimes does in September and October.

    • Un Yes so cool to see Tanimura Yumi appearing here….really time to share as much of these magazines as I can as otherwise they’re just in storage =). I also want to photograph many calendars from this decade too including Moritaka Chisato, Sakai Noriko, Nishida Hikaru, Suenaga Haruka and many many more as I’ve long been a calendar collector…like an annual obsession =) Just about completed this year’s order with only the AKCalendars to wait for now…still so overjoyed that Yuko’s getting a calendar this year!!!!~*~! Un I believe that is correct! Un I have a few of her singles and an album from back then….she’s always been so talented and adorable I may add! I think you’d probably find old magazines in like their Book Off stores? I don’t know how how easy to find some of them may be though…..the Bomb magazine issues from the nineties are particularly amazing with their pictorials and content as I’ll most likely be switching between old UTB’s and old Bomb issues for the Unzipped♥ series =). One of my uncles used to have a huge National Geographic collection I can remember seeing when I was little….those are definitely not issues to part with!

Still warm and it’s been particularly rainy with flash flooding across the state =(…..a by product of the passing hurricanes and tropical depressions =(….and they’re also blocking our trade winds so it’s been really humid and hot this past week into this weekend with no relief in sight =/.

It would be wonderful to see NoriP’s etc calendars. NoriP’s phonebooks are on eBay, but the postage is annoyingly high. It’s good to know they’re still out there, though.

        • You know I’ve never scanned any of Sakai Noriko’s shashinshuu before…..I guess I always intended to create a main post for her and then go from there but just haven’t gotten around to it yet xD. I do have a few of her shashinshuu, most I found at one of our local BookOff stores and I really do plan on photographing her calendars perhaps after I’ve magazine~d everyone out with the older issues on Unzipped♥ =P.

Any NoriP would be welcome! You were so fortunate to find her shashinshuu in BookOff. Those stores sound like Aladdin’s cave! We used to have really good remainder stores over here, but they’re few and far between now, probably because of Amazon etc

            • I’ve got a couple of bins+ in storage and there must be nearly 200+ or so idol/artist calendars in there as I used to collect them even more zealously than I do nowadays =P. Just a matter of digging them out and locating what I’m looking for as most aren’t labeled correctly as being sort of wacky back then I never used to place the older calendars coming down into their proper wrappers xD as I would just place them into the new wrappers from which the current calendars were coming out of (-∀-`)。

Un Japanese sellers on Amazon Japan have so many rarities for sale however really none will ship out of country so then you’ll need a middle man service and there goes the cost way up XD.

Otokichi provides just such a service, don’t they, provided you know exactly what you want. Masa doesn’t charge very much, either. You certainly have a great collection of calendars!

                • Oh I’ve never used it before and I was just reading his tutorial…he’s so detailed isn’t he! I’d be worried if it were a bidding auction however if it were a store or a buy it now auction then I’d give it a try! I used to use this other service before through a friend’s recommendation but I don’t think he’s doing that service anymore….haven’t done a proxy order in awhile. After a bit of magazine nostalgia I’ll begin mixing in calendars to the Idols♥ Unzipped series I think =).
