It’s only fitting that the greatest (imho =) ) band on the planet release a likewise grand presentation of a box set!! for their latest album effort ^^!
“REFLECTION” was released on June 4th in three most noteworthy versions as depending on which edition you had chosen, the contents therein would be notably different! The regular edition of “REFLECTION” is named “{Drip}” and includes 14 songs and a special code which offers 9 additional (digital) songs which can be obtained online for an additional cost per song while its sister version “{Drip} LE in addition to the albums 14 songs and access to nine more via the web also includes an additional DVD containing a special making of the album documentary which runs approximately 62 minutes. And then you have the complete box set limited edition version named “REFLECTION {Naked}” which includes everything you receive with the “Drip LE” with the additions of an 80 page hard cover pictorial booklet, booklet with liner notes/lyrics, a special code which allows access to demo-tracks. a gorgeously designed USB which contains in addition to the original album REFLECTION’s fourteen tracks….the nine additional songs which you would need to purchase digitally with the other versions and it all comes housed in a beautifully and most sturdy outer box which is most well designed to keep everything organized and safe and sound. Also note that all of the audio included on this set’s special USB is offered in both mp3 versions as well as a high resolution audio format (24bit/96KHz) for superior sound !~! Now over the years here I’ve most likely gushed ヽ(。´▽`。)ノ。。!! an ocean’s worth or so about Mr.Children as they are my undisputed favorite band in all of the universe and so today I’m going to try to restrain myself a bit and focus much more on the awesome packaging and presentation here so I’ll just say as from a band who’s already gone full-circle musically over their years together this new album has all of the depth and variety you’ve come to love and cherish and it will not disappoint! ^^♥
~Unboxing the Limited Edition…
Disc package is also housed in a clear outer slip case; top right is the liner notes booklet which also contains lyrics for all 23 songs as well as special QR codes for demo tracks which can be accessed online; left is the 80 page hard cover photo book.
Album’s clear slip case is visible top/center; “REFLECTION’s” 14 song lyric booklet is up front as this album features a fold-out style.
Hidden just beneath this transparent sheet is the LE’s USB which sits at the very bottom of the box.
The USB is protected in a custom foam holder which holds it securely in place.
Here the {Naked} USB is standing up, the bottom portion separates to reveal the USB connector. Note the USB’s glass and reflective sides.
An interesting aspect of this USB is that the reflections you see are angled such as to not show you a direct reflection, so while looking directly at it you won’t see a reflection of yourself.
It’s like an art piece in itself and I must add that this USB is quite heavy for its size which reflects the quality of materials used in its construction.
Here the USB is open and ready to load into your PC so that you can access all 23 songs with superior sound ^^.

~An excerpt from REFLECTION’s making of documentary ft. “Mikan” (live)….~
Running just over 62 minutes, Mr.Children’s album making of documentary is most likely very close to what The Beatles had originally intended while filming their making of documentary “Let it Be” all those years ago (btw when are they ever going to re-release this film??). That is to say it’s very intimate in content showing Sakurai~san’s ideas moved from mind to paper to notes in studio all the while sharing just how these songs become a cumulative band effort and just how he communicates his musical ideas so that the whole of his songs may be produced with pure authenticity to their original writings. There’s even a scene of Sakurai~san air-drumming his ideas to drummer Suzuki Hideya along with numerous rough cuts of the recording process leading up to the polishing of orchestrations and chorus parts in latter production, just all in all a very close up document which gives fans a true realism as to how songs go from mind & heart to album with every step in between~. The little clip above closes the documentary as it shows a live performance of “Mikan” which fittingly opens the “REFLECTION {Drip}” album.
Wow, what an extraordinary release! I really enjoyed ‘Melody’. I’ll come back and listen to the other songs later. I’m ashamed to say, I only have the one album, Shinkai. I’d better do something about that, hadn’t I!

Wow “Shinkai” is such a venturous album for Mr.Children or as I like to refer to it as being their “Pink Floyd” inspired album =). That album has such a uniquely darkness and moodiness to it and it’s one of my favorites and i guess the chair at the bottom of the sea was sort of a means of conveying that before even a note was heard. “Kind of Love” and “Atomic Heart” would be my top two suggestions for their albums but really you can’t go wrong with any of their albums as they’re all great in their own ways. The thing is Mr.Children really went ‘full circle’ during the course of their releases musically speaking as to say that they produced vastly different styles from album to album over the years as Sakurai~san’s musical heart and genius seems to be endless!
I’m so happy you mentioned “Melody” here!!!! It’s really a standout song no question!!! I know I only edited out a live performance here but their making of is so intimate as you literally see how Sakurai~san conveys his writings to the other band members as they create his ideas into musical realities right there in studio, it’s really remarkable to be able to witness the process as close-up as this ^^.

Oh but if you’re thinking of getting maybe just a few of Mr.Children’s releases then I’d recommend getting their two best of collections which are pretty definitive for their earlier years. They’re titled simply “Mr.Children 1992-1995″ and Mr.Children 1996-2000.”

Mr.Children’s “Popsauras” tour is also highly recommended!!! It coincided with those two best of albums as it was their “best of” tour so you hear/see nothing but their biggest songs all time ^^. Un I have quite a lot of things on pre-order at the moment =P!

Pingback: ~15 of My Most Favorite Things~♡ of 2015~ | モーニングBerryz48…the morning after….. "Always wear protection before reading…(^q^)."
Hello MorningBerryz! Nice to meet you and your awesome blog. I didn’t know there is such blog that writes about Mr.Children so much and I’m so happy to find a fellow fans! I’ve been listening to their latest album (REFLECTION) and a lot of album in years above 2000, and now I’m digging to their past work such as Atomic Heart and Discovery. I can only say, WOW. Just as you say, they grew so much, so so much. Their music indeed very very diverse and it explores a lot of emotion (and styles), from happiness, despair, anger, hope, sweetness, to bitterness. For the Reflection album, I really like this album! This is my second favorite album after Sense ^^. The USB is very majestic isn’t it? Hehehe

Oh my GOSH!! It’s not very often that I hear from a Mr.Children fan and I have to say thank you so much for reaching out to me!!!! I mean it seems that a lot of readers here are, how should i say it …shy? U~n there’s quite a lot of Mr.Children posts here that I’ve done over the years, and they are certainly my most favorite Japanese band of all time no question! A band that has truly gone full~circle in terms of how they’ve covered genres across the globe with of course their very own brand of music to present to us. I first was turned onto their album “Atomic Heart” years back from a friend and just like you I backtracked and also went forward with them as they’ve grown and grown musically and as individual musicians. In terms of going full circle with music i liken them to what The Beatles accomplished in a loosely made analogy of sorts, this band is unique and they’ve accomplished so MUCH. Sakurai~san’s voice melts me!!! His lyrics, his phrasing and his knack for making his poetry so beautiful for us fans!!
A quick shortlist of favorite songs off the top of my head at the moment would be:
Kimi ga ita natsu …..only like the greatest first single ever!!! You can hear even in their early works how much The Beatles inspires Sakurai~san!
Hoshi ni naretara
Dakishimetai
Innocent World ….their iconic song!
[es]~theme of es~
Namonaki uta ….was such an awesome drama theme song too!
Kuchibue
And I love you
Sign ….OMG another grand drama theme song and this one could go on repeat forever for me!
Classmate
Kurumi ….wonderful lyrics, makes me cry.
Shirushi ….one of the all time best ballads ever!
Esora …one of the most amusing music videos too! Incredible song!!
Hanabi ….perhaps my overall #1? Difficult to say but on some day it is.
Melody ….ditto!
Oh and this could go on for awhile so I’ll stop before I bore you! xD
“Supermarket Fantasy” is an awesome album too! But they all are =P.
Oh yes the USB here just blew me away!! I never imagined such incredible packaging too!! It was a blessing to pre-order the LE before it sold out.
I guess my recommended Mr.Children starting post would be here:

Older posts here have sadly lost all of their media as I was originally a VOX blogger and when they closed VOX I moved here to WordPress so posts predating September 12th, 2010 are older VOX posts and those are the ones which for the most part have sadly lost all of their videos and mp3s =(, I did a bit of backtracking with some older VOX posts but there are just so many, too many really to completely fix. Still I hope you enjoy reading them as at least my text survived the move =).
Most exciting to meet you Arvi67!~! ^^

Ahahaha, I’ve read almost everything on your blog that contains Mr.Children in it, in just one day (that’s just how I really like them) ^^
Yes, I think so. I think they are the very definition of what I think Japanese music is. English or Japanese is not my first language, but their music always reaches to me. I wonder why is that. Their songs are not the most sophisticated songs, but the simplicity shows the beauty in the songs. The melody, the lyrics. It’s like I can see what kind of life the musicians through to build those heartfelt songs. I can feel the honesty in the music ^^
Maybe they are the Beatles of Japan, right? But of course, as you say, they have their own color~
Sakurai-san is so, WOW. Where did those lyrics came from? It’s so beautiful. Where did those voice came from? So unique and it goes directly into the heart.
Ahahaha of course it will not bore me ^^ I’ve listened to all those songs that you recommended. Hanabi was the first song that introduce me to Mr.Children (I heard it on Code Blue drama). When I heard that song, I felt that this song was very…”weird”. It went on and on and on, BUT, it grew on me. It gave me a different perspective each time I heard this song. It has a mystical value. And from that time I started searching for Mr.Children (my only weapon is Youtube). And before I knew it I’ve listened to a lot of their song, and became a fan ^^.
Supermarket Fantasy is a collection of candies. Literally. I like it so much ^^.
My favorite songs would be……It’s so hard to choose! I like almost all of them ^^; But to name a few:
Owarinaki Tabi: the song that always drives me forward
Drawing: a love song to calm my heart
Kuchibue: Another song to calm my heart
Ao: a song that I listen on my lowest time
aaand I could ramble on and write every adjective word I know to each of their songs ^^;
Me too ^^ Please post a lot Mr.Children >.< Hehehe
