Abe Natsumi Toward The Light ~classical & crossover~ album with first press clear file

It wasn’t too long ago that I was raving about Nacchi’s vocal progressions and maturity with the arrival of her “Smile…♡” album and so with an entirely new album just released on October 22nd and with it being headlined as being a classical work you can’t imagine my excitement for its arrival!!!

Now for a moment let’s put on our imagination caps…..now envision yourself sitting within the confines of a grand theater chamber with all of the acoustic charms and classy nuances of the world’s finest. As you sit quietly in the deeply shadowed hall puffed softly upon the most comfortable of seating an ever so gentle alliance of oboe, piano and flute begin to fill the air quickly doubled by the harp, clarinet and a sea of strings as they engulf you within an air of wonderful breeze of notes upon notes each ever so subtly climbing and descending in a whirlwind of harmonies and rhythms~…..and as you open your eyes it’s the voice of an angel which further garners your unwavering attention, a crystal clear voice of both strength and chAbe Natsumi in ~classical & crossover~arm as you readily recognize its origin and at first perhaps an unlikely voice you realize it’s none other than Nacchi’s~♥!

Nacchi’s “Hikari e ~classical & crossover~” is without question a rarity within the likes of ex-idols and what you’re about to witness here is the culmination and evolution of an idol whose major debut dates back 16 years with the added celebration ~* of now 10 years since her graduation from H!P/Momusu as Nacchi has taken upon herself the immense leap into the classical music genre.

The LE includes an additional DVD containing two music videos and an insightful documentary, a photo booklet, a bonus CD track all of which come housed in an outer slip case while the first pressings also include a full sized and picture decorated clear file (see photo atop, left).

As you listen to the tracks here you’ll likely recognize quite a few of them as there’s an abundance of musical standards and show/movie/drama tunes which are from the likes of Les Miserables, Elisabeth and Cinderella amongst a cast of other notables….my most favorites here being Nacchi’s rendition of “The Rose” (such a beautiful song made legendary by Bette Midler with the likes of LeAnn Rimes recording a gorgeous version herself….), “Yume yaburete” (“I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables which I can listen to over and over and I must mention that the movie version starring Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman & Anne Hathaway was amazing!!!), “Greensleeves” (you’ll surely know this one!), “Kono inori” (“The Prayer” which is an amazing duet!!!!), “Yume wa hisoka ni” (from the movie “Cinderella”), “On My Own” (which is also from Les Miserables and such a memorable song!!) and “Shiro no waltz” which is the album’s Christmas bonus track!!! YES there’s lots to love here as I’ve already named over half of the album and the remainder of these songs are most wonderful too =)!~!

Although Nacchi makes note of this during the documentary clip, it’s hard to imagine that it’s her first time performing with a full orchestra in this illustrious setting!! Just think back to all of her Momusu days and her vocals then and now as Nacchi’s vocal projection is coming from deep from within and just how emotionally connected Nacchi is here with both music and lyrics making for this breathtaking classical performance! I just can’t get over her vocal projection here!!…it’s so awesome!! At first you may feel a bit surreal seeing Nacchi perform in such a setting and to think she mentions in the documentary how she was worried about being clumsy xD…not a chance! Again one of my most favorite songs from this album and happily it got its very own music video~♥ ^^.

Wow, what an amazing project. I’ll listen to The Rose etc, but ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ is fantastic. Good that it was a translation and not in English, as she wasn’t sidetracked by having to pronounce it, and could concentrate on the song. It is surreal seeing her with an orchestra, but hopefully it’ll happen more often, as it’s great to hear. I’ll listen to the other songs later. Wonderful post. I can sense your excitement at getting this in the post!

    • That’s a great point about the lyrics as it would have been much more difficult had they not translated them and I am just in awe hearing Nacchi sing in this style and from the instant she began to perform from Les Miserables I was immediately blown away!!! The Rose is such a beautiful song isn’t it, it’s of those songs you just kind of know and I’m not even sure of where I first heard it…amazing lyrics and melody. The entire album is so dream like and if you put your headphones on you can readily imagine yourself seated in a darkened concert hall as Nacchi does so amazing with her voice….I’m just so impressed!!

‘Hikari e’ (towards the light?) is amazing. What a song, what a voice. ‘The Rose’ has a superb arrangement, doesn’t it, and Nacchi is faultless here. It’s a great song in Japanese, isn’t it. ‘Carnation’ is delightful too. I didn’t know this song. Is it really well known? What an impressive direction Nacchi has gone in, though. Hopefully there’ll be a tour and a live concert to follow? Looks as though her career is going to run and run, especially if she continues to throw herself heart and soul into such huge artistic gambles as this. Love the Christmas song too.

        • I never imagined hearing The Rose in a classical style like this with yes such a great arrangement. Un and it’s funny that on the cover it’s written in English but then on the track listing itself it’s written in Japanese as ‘Hikari e.’ I still am in awe that it’s her vocals here being heard in such a new light totally. Carnation wasn’t a known song for me either so it became one of those songs which you play a few times and then fall in love with but I’ve never heard of it before. Un hopefully a total concert hall experience will be released and I’d think that surely they’ll release one with all that went into this production…one can hope! Nacchi has an upcoming birthday concert release and these are always special with surprise guests appearing on stage with the birthday girl….awhile back Yuko (Nakazawa) had a birthday concert released too which was most fun to watch =).
