Nishikori Kei...

~Kei Nishikori vs. Novak Djokovic (2014 U.S. OPEN semifinal)~

Kei Nishikori defeats Novak Djokovic at the 2014 U.S. Open (2)It may ended at past four in the morning Japan time and yet I’m positive that the country was wide awake to witness Kei Nishikori’s historic run to the U.S. Open final which will be played on Monday (11 am HST)!!!! Kei Nishikori becomes the very first male Japanese/asian tennis player to reach a Grand Slam final and just a few days prior he made history by becoming the first since the early 1900’s (1914 or 1918?…) to reach a semifinal by defeating Milos Raonic in the quarters (a night match which went into the wee hours of the morning tying the latest for a U.S. Open match at past 2 am!) and just consider Nishikori’s road to this year’s U.S. Open final as he had to defeat the #5, #3 and just minutes ago the #1 player in the world!!!!!! New York is under severe heat and humidity and you can say that Nishikori’s conditioning paid off huge dividends as his opponent Djokovic was noticeably under duress in the extreme heat and a lot can be said of his pairing with his coach and former player and Grand Slam winner in Michael Chang (won the French Open @ 17 years old) who’s added a lot of mental strengthCaroline Wozniacki.. and firepower to Nishikori’s game. And my Caroline Wozniackisentimental pick in the women’s draw has reached the final also as Caroline Wozniacki whom I so want to see win a Grand Slam is set to meet #1 Serena Williams tomorrow in the ladies final!!!! And did you know that Wozniacki and Williams are close friends on the tour? It’s true and what a match I think this is going to be as both are playing phenomenal tennis all leading up to this intriguing final match for a Grand Slam title no less! I just ♥ tennis!!!….and yes it’s one of the very few sports which I can play ok ^^.

In case you missed tennis history in the making, above is the last 17 minutes of the match including the post match interview held on center court with Mary Joe Fernandez ^^.

And I also have the night race @ Richmond to look forward to in just a few hours from now which always cranks up the drama, you know with the CHASE drivers being set for this year’s new playoff elimination format it’s going to be really good, hope you’re having a wonderful weekend too =)!

Did you watch Federer return from almost certain defeat? I saw clips and wished I’d seen the whole match! I would also loved to have seen Martina Navratilova proposing marriage live on TV. That must have given the unsuspecting viewers a real surprise and treat! I expect it’s on YouTube, so I’d better check that out.

    • That was phenomenal!!!! Down two sets and Federer fought back so inspired! U~n surely it must be, what an amazing moment for them and no better place than at the US Open =). Martina and Chrissie presented Serena with a commemorative bracelet for her 18th major win which has them all tied up now….just amazing! I was so pulling for Wozniacki but she was just outmatched as does appear Nishikori right now as I’m typing this…..Cilic is serving scary-like and his reach is amazing…..and perhaps Nishikori may be feeling the fatigue set in finally as he’s played marathon matches to reach the final today. I wonder if Serena will reach Graf’s 22 mark of grand slams? She looked unstoppable yesterday.
