Smap reaches an amazing release milestone with their now 50th single release!! And really it could probably by like a 100th by now had Smap not gone through so many periods of far and few between single releases throughout the years and in particular within the years of the height of their variety programs activities.
So how do you celebrate such a momentous occasion? Well for one you make sure to wear something or another which is a sharp cross between Sgt. Peppers meets oddly inspired bikers meets…well Smap and in particular the Smap of the the early 90’s (remember those singles and album covers?!?) and their roller skating days (gulp!) =D! Okay so there was a marching band present (which explains the Sgt. Pepper part) within their elaborate production which just happened to be a most well choreographed flash mob musical with their new 50th single’s title track “Joy!!” taking center stage and with such a large cast of dancers I must say. Still while their sudden entrance and quick exit complete with funny Kimutaku facial expressions relating to the grand sneakiness of it all may have been the best part, the entire production is pretty amazing and lots of fun to watch! So congratulations Smap on your 50th \(^O^)/~!!! It’s been a wonderfully colorful ride till now and also here’s to many more singles to come!

The coupling with track “Tenohira no sekai” (“Palm sized world”) has quite the mind~bending visuals to put it lightly!! With the wonders of liquid and a whole lot of video editing magic, image manipulation and visual trickery this pv is like no other I’ve ever seen, simply mesmerizing from start to finish. It’s difficult to put into words just what it is which is going on, on screen in a non stop movement so you’ll just have to watch and I’m pretty sure you’ll be entertained whether you’re a Smap fan, casual fan or not at all…this is just video genius @ work.
