~[TGIF] Idols♥ Unzipped postponed due to…..

Over the past few days I’ve been having a bit of trouble with my WordPress memory and I’m speaking with a staff member trying to resolve it…..it appears to be some sort of glitch in the way that my memory subscriptions are renewed and expire as my memory has gone into the negative so like with even $140 spent on memory upgrades they’re giving me only about 9 GB of memory total =(. I may not be able to post again until they figure out what’s wrong as I don’t want to use any of the memory so that they can look into what’s happening, trouble is that so far they don’t seem to believe me =/….they’re saying that I need to keep purchasing more upgrades but it’s getting ridiculously expensive and I’m telling them that somehow my memory use has gone into the negative for some unknown reason so with each purchase it’s just digging itself out of this negative amount of GBs just to get to even and then it’ll give me actual memory I can use….right now just 9 GB for the price of $140, that just can’t be right can it? =/. Still waiting for a response today.

Hope to be back to writing soon if WP can figure out what’s wrong.

    • You’re always so thoughtful Mikey~♡ but you know I could never impose on you like that, I’m thinking I should wait to see WP’s response and if they are able to correct the glitch. I hope I’ll hear from them by tomorrow and that they don’t just tell me to purchase more memory because there’s something really wrong here =/.

Ok. But if they don’t agree with you let me get you enough time so we can see about rehosting your blog. That means your own domain, not WordPress.com, you can do so much more that way. I want for my future podcast I plan to do. I am looking At Bluehost as provider .

        I wonder if Morningberryz.com is available?! ^^

Please don’t just go away! Ok??

Hi MB. My guess is that once your memory subscription runs out and you have to renew it, they just take it out of your account. I don’t remember the numbers anymore, so I’ll just make stuff up. Let’s say the free initial amount is 2gb of space. You buy 100gb to use for one year. That’ll make your total space 102gb. Then, you use 70gb during that year, and it’s time to renew. That means your space would go to -68gb (100gb expired, 70gb are used, and you had the 2 for free, so you’re 68gb in debt). Then you have to renew the subscription for the 100gb so that it’ll go back to what you had before.

So, it’s exactly what you said in the last answer to Mikey. You don’t “buy” memory, you subscribe for it for one year. It’s written right on the store, you can see below the prices that they’re labeled “USD /年”. Well, at least in the Japanese page it shows up like this. So yeah, they are charging you to renew your previous subscription to get back to your previous amount of memory.

It’s too bad it’s not what you were expecting, but I’m afraid they won’t give you the memory you had before for free, as that’s not how it works and there was no error on their side, unless you already paid for the renewal and it wasn’t accounted for.

    • So if I subscibed for 50 GB and used 40 of it, when it’s time to renew I would need to subscribe for 90 GB in order to have 50? My 50 expired and since then I’ve subscribed for 50, 25 and 10 GB, and now i have about 9 GB, is this correct? The staff said i will have 88 (with the original 3), however i have just 9. I had 10 GB left when it expired.

      • SagSousuke says:

Yes, you’d subscribe to 90GB so that you’d have 50GB left over. Staff is right that you would have 88GB after your new subscriptions, and if you were using 40GB, that means you should end up with 48GB left over, not 9GB.

Are you sure you had 10GB left when it expired? It sounds like you got your renewal, but the extra 25 and 10GB subscriptions didn’t go through… but that’s if you had 9GB left before. Otherwise 1GB got lost somewhere. Actually, I can’t see how you could end up with 9GB left given that you were subscribed to 50, had 10, and then did those other subscriptions.

        • Does it keep adding up year after year? Like if i did the above usage and subscriptions on year three i would need to subscribe for 270 GB to have 50GB?

It was 9.(something) left when the 50 expired. If it’s adding up each year getting higher that would be scary.

It does add up each year. But I don’t see how you got to 270GB. Let’s check again:
            – you had a 50GB subscription before. With 3 more free, that’s 53GB total space. That’s all the memory you had subscribed to.
            – you had about 10GB left before, so you were using 43GB.
            – then the 50GB subscription expired, and you saw that you had something like -40GB left.
            – then you got subscriptions for 50GB, 25GB and 10GB
            – you’re **stops writing** damn, just saw on the little WordPress notification thing in the top right that you wrote a dozen new comments while I typed one =P let me go see that and try again

        • Actually on year three it would be 170 GB to have 50? I did that totally wrong. If it keeps adding up based on what is on the blog over time?

          Like

        • That would be 40 used each year times 3 years for 120 on the blog plus the 50…equalling 170 which would need to be paid for then to have 50?

Maybe it’s time to look a another service to host your big files like Libsyn.com? They are very reputable and I can get you a promo code. If you can get stabilized for now, then you could slowly move your biggest files to libsyn and not need nearly as much space from WP in the future?

        • So long term over many years it may cost like $1000 to have 50 GB? If the overall size of your blog is always adding up cumulatively and each year you pay for all of the past used memory in addition to getting more?

          Like

        • If that’s the case then this blog is way too large and it would make more sense to open a new blog every few years so you’re not always annually paying for the past memory used plus new memory.

I think it’s like your hard drive on your PC . Unless you delete things, it just keeps using more space as you create more items. If you start over all your old stuff would disappear like buying a new hard drive . But as you know from Vox, your previous posts information is very valuable! You have a lot of unique information!! That is one reason I’m willing to help you get more space while we find a longer term cheaper solution.

I wonder if they’d keep hosting the past content if you don’t renew the memory you were already using? Pretty good chance they’ll just delete it after some time, although I don’t know what their policy is.

            • Yikes!!!! Then blogs eventually dissappear over time here as there are lots of blogs where people stop using them, that’s sad. Like doing all this and eventually it won’t exist anymore. I guess all things must pass.

  3. We just paid $140 for 9.(something) GB. It’s already way too expensive to continue to post here. Unless there is some error occurring. Awhile ago a staff member did something to modify the expiration date of a past subscription extending it for i think a couple of months longer as a favor since i had used so little of that subscription that year, when i took a hiatus then. That subscription was for 100 GB but i only used like 30 something of it….i was asking WP if that could be having a lingering effect now causing some sort of error….but they never addressed that question.

Ok, so you had another 100GB subscription… that changes things, but I see you’ve got it already. You pay for the total amount you have available every year, not for new amount, so it does add up over time. You could get how much space you’re using in total right now, divide by how many years you’ve been blogging, and see how much you add to it in a year, in average; that’s how much extra memory you’d need to subscribe to every year. Don’t forget to count back to the years on Vox, since you also have the content from back then over here.

    • Okay i understand =), wow okay this blog is already kind of large so after i use these 9 i think it won’t make financial sense to renew any more memory here. I have a really large post that’s been a work in progress for a few months now, that’ll be the last post for this blog….it’ll give me closure.

It’s pretty amazing to think that you couldn’t keep going for a year with 9GB though, that’s a lot of space we’re talking about. But we’ve had the conversation before, about how you don’t really need to scan everything you come across, and I’m here just to read what you have to say, but you still wanted to keep all the photos around since who would be interested in just reading your opinion? and the photos are what gets the most hits with people coming to your blog from Google Images or something. But yeah, I totally understand it not making financial sense to keep a media heavy blog like this by yourself; and there isn’t really an alternative I can offer you. You have a personal blog that needs more power than most professional sites out there. Keeping content out of the blog and linking to it as Mikey suggested probably won’t work for you; it’d be a matter of time until you hit free limits on whatever photo sharing site you chose, and I won’t even talk about YouTube removing videos… You could use some file sharing site to upload all your scans for a given post, but I don’t think that’s the outcome you want, I think you like having the photos showing up on your blog; also, these sites aren’t really reliable these days, not since MegaUpload closed.

There’s nothing to argue with financial reasons, so I’ll just start preparing for the coming end. I guess the Mayan were wrong by a few months?

        • You know me too well lol! I guess i never wanted a file type blog so having all of the visuals really meant something to me. I actually have some files i could delete, awhile back i was intending to post about AKB48’s pv box set and i uploaded every pv on there but never did post them…that was stupid! Oh you do know that not many people actually read things that i write =P…’Mayans’…oh no you’re too wonderful! it won’t be tragic when i stop writing here and i don’t think many will notice. Sort of like a tree falling in the woods but there’s no sound as no one’s there to hear it =).

I was going to gift you the the 100gb to solve the problem for now, but I don’t have your login password, so I can’t do that. Email me your password so I can please. You can change your pw after. That will give you time to decide. I can’t allow the invaluable treasure you have here to disappear.

I think Bluehost.com is the long term answer – much cheaper!! And you’ll be self-hosted and have your own domain name 🙂

So lets get your immediate problem resolved, shall we ❤

            • I could never ask of a gift like that =)…it’ll be okay as long as WP leaves the blog as is afterward. And Sagsousuke’s right, I still have a lot of memory left plus I just deleted some unattached videos which weren’t on any posts so it’ll be a long farewell blog tour =P.

Bluehost.com is shared hosting for $7 a month… you know, when these services advertise “unlimited” storage, they don’t really mean it. Shared hosting only works because the vast majority of people use way less than they pay for, which balances things out in the end… The average web site/blog wouldn’t go near 1GB. MB, you might try it, but do ask them before you do if they’re up to hosting a few tens of GBs, Who knows, maybe they are. Storage is cheap nowadays, and you can get a 100GB account on Dropbox for like $10 dollars (completely different service just brought up for comparison, doesn’t host websites). But you don’t want surprises at the end, especially if you want to migrate the content that’s here now.

    • It’s definitely an option and I’m really wondering if WP would leave everything here even after I stop subscribing for memory. I think it said something like…..’you won’t be able to upload any files but your current files will be okay?’ or did I imagine that xD. That’s really the biggest concern as I could leave this be just as long as it didn’t disappear. I’d definitely need to ask first and it’s good to know all of this beforehand =).
