~SMAP “Yozora no mukou” (SMAPxSMAP)~

1998. This song even then grew into a larger than life icon in music and though it now fares in comparison sales wise to “Sekai ni Hitotsu Dake no Hana”, it somehow remains still larger and in a sense even more epic~.

Some particular songs just take you back….and reinvigorate fond memories~* so vividly like where you were at times listening and just what your life was like back then and whom you were seeing and what you were doing daily….work..friends…playtime…life…everything~. So while going through some old (ugh! yes….) VHS tapes I came across an array of various SMAP performances of “Yozora no mukou.” No wait…that would be quite the understatement as I actually have seemingly (how much does a song weigh :P?) tons of live and studio performances from both t.v. shows, concerts and quite a few from their always awesome SMAPxSMAP variety show =)! I just thought this one particular performance was perfect nostalgia as it’s one of their very first to be broadcast….again it’s from a VHS source so it’s not a perfect video by no means but still watchable~♥.

SMAP “Yozora no mukou”

Are kara boku tachi wa
Nanika wo shinjite koreta ka naa…
Yozora no mukou niwa
Ashita ga mou matte iru

Ever since then
I wonder if we could come to believe in something…
Beyond the night sky
Tomorrow is already waiting

Dareka no koe ni kizuki
Bokura wa mi wo hisomete
Kouen no FENSU goshi ni
Yoru no kaze ga fuita

Noticing someone’s voice
We hid ourselves
Beyond the park fence
The night wind was blowing

Kimi ga nanika tsutaeyou to
Nigiri kaeshita sono te wa
Boku no kokoro no yarakai basho wo
Ima demo mada shimetsukeru

The way your hand returned my grasp
As if you were trying to tell me something
Even now, in a soft place in my heart
That gesture squeezes my heart

Are kara boku tachi wa
Nanika wo shinjite koreta ka naa…
Mado wo sotto akete miru
Fuyu no kaze no nioi ga shita

Ever since then
I wonder if we could come to believe in something…
Softly, I’ll try to open the window
I could smell the wind of winter

Kanashimi-tte itsuka wa
Kiete shimau mono nano ka naa…
Tameiki wa sukoshi dake
Shiroku nokotte sugu kieta

I wonder if sadness is something
That will someday completely disappear…
My sigh just slightly
Left a trace of white, then soon disappeared

Aruki dasu koto sae mo
Ichi ichi tamerau kuse ni
Tsumaranai joushiki nado
Tsubuseru to omotteta

Even when I start to walk
With each step, I hesitate
But I had thought that I could crush
My worthless common sense

Kimi ni hanashita kotoba wa
Doredake nokotte iru no?
Boku no kokoro no ichiban oku de
Karamawari shi tsuzukeru

The words I spoke to you
How much of them remain?
In the very deepest part of my heart
The fruitless efforts continue

Ano koro no mirai ni
Bokura wa tatte iru no ka naa…
Subete ga omou hodo
Umaku wa ikanai mitai da

I wonder if we’re standing
In the future of that time
It seems like nothing is going
Quite as well as we had hoped

Kono mama doko made mo
Hibi wa tsuzuite iku no ka naa…
Kumo no nai hoshizora ga
Mado no mukou ni tsuzuiteru

I wonder how much further
These days will continue like this…
The cloudless starry sky
Continues beyond the window

Are kara boku tachi wa
Nanika wo shinjite koreta ka naa…
Yozora no mukou niwa
Ashita ga mou matte iru

Ever since then
I wonder if we could come to believe in something…
Beyond the night sky
Tomorrow is already waiting

    • Really wonderful performance n~e!…they would periodically change their SMAPXSMAP theme songs and much less in the latter years with less new singles being released but no matter how many times I’d see and listen to the very same songs over and over with various stage sets and effects it never got old ever =)♥. I’ve got so many performances of “Yozora no mukou” taped on old ugh! VHS xD~. So happy~* you enjoyed this one too!
