~Vox is closing, it’d be sad if everything here is sucked into a black hole and disappears…

..imagine you awake one day to find out that your home~♥ is being bulldozed in less than a month (・д・`*)!!!。。okay I'm being a bit overly dramatic but nonetheless this leaves a lot of questions (・_・)?

Seriously though I just read Vox's message today, and it's been a great blogging here for the past few years but I guess it's true that all things must pass =(. The layout here is super user friendly which was such an attracting point especially for someone like me who isn't very pc savvy. So on September 30th this will all disappear unless I export the contents elsewhere. From what Vox has said with their testing, WordPress would leave behind too much content that I have here during the export process so that leaves a possible TypePad account. I've actually never heard of TypePad and I'm really wondering if I'd be happy there using it?? Still it'd be the only way to save things here from vanishing from the face of the earth  no space, wherever the internet exists XD.

Vox says that TypePad will export everything which is embedded although I only "embed' YouTube videos here so that's a bit confusing as I don't know if everything else photo and video wise will not be exported? They also say that Flickr is available for our photos but if I export to TypePad will I also need to export to Flickr too?…or will everything be at TypePad I wonder? In any case there's a lot of random stuff♥ here and I don't know it could take ages to export everything to TypePad and I'm not even sure if everything truly will be exported as I'm not sure if everything here as with photos and videos directly uploaded to Vox counts as "embedded?"

Well it's traumatic to have to suddenly leave your home♥ in search of a new one and would anyone really miss this place if it were gone after September 30th? Sitemeter says that an average of 482 visitors come here each day and I you'd probably laugh as it's very little compared to everyone elses' blogs, but building my love here from the very first day I began when maybe 5 people were visiting a day has been a warm and enjoyable place and It kinda makes my head hurt to think about it all as this seems so sudden but foremost thank you~* to Vox for everything you've provided and for all of the friends~♥ I've made here over the past few years….it's been a most fun time for someone who knew nothing about blogging before….and um still doesn't (*´∀`)♥!

I don't know what to do right now, let it all cave into a black hole on September 30th or try TypePad…something I'm not familiar with and I don't even know how it will all look there if in fact everything can be saved and exported there to begin with…if not it may seem pointless maybe. I don't know, any thoughts to help me would be ♥.

  4. Hrm~ not sure what would be the best solution, especially since you've got so much content. Flickr -is- a good service, but to have all your photos visible, you will need to purchase a subscription, which is about $30 a year? I'm not certain they will allow you to post copyrighted material… so hrm…

I am in the process of exporting my blog to TypePad. According to the post on VOX it seems like the best way to preserve your work. It has been about five hours so far. I have no idea how long this transfer is going to take. We'll see, I'll let you know how it goes.To be honest, I have been wanting to drop one of my blogs for a long time now. So this is all quite bittersweet. The main reason I have stayed on VOX is because of you MB. I hope you remember my other addresses!Whatever happens, let's make sure we keep in touch 🙂

I hope you still open another blog. It's nice following your posts! ^_^When you have decided, just post your new URL here and I'll be glad to follow you… :)When I also discovered the news about Vox closing, I really felt sad. This is my first fangirl blog and I have been here for about 3 years already. I thought that there are not much users in Vox but then… I think the simplicity of the blog layouts and the clearness of formatting makes this the best!

TypePad and Vox are both owned by SixApart. The difference is that Vox is community oriented, extremely user friendly, abandoned by the developers and badly done in the first place, while TypePad actually makes them some money. TypePad used to be paid-only, but it seems like they added some Typepad Micro thing that's free; I hadn't heard about that. As they are both owned by SixApart, the transition should be painless… Look at CK's blog, comments are there too. Here's what you have to do:1 – Go here.2 – Follow instructions. I was going to take some photos but it's pretty obvious, just make sure in the first screen that you choose Vox at the right side and put your blog's address in there, instead of making a new account on Typepad. Like here. Then they just ask you for your login info in Vox, what address you want for your blog in Typepad, and you click "Import", and it imports. No big deal. Once it begins importing, there's nothing for you to do until it finishes; you can just bookmark the page, turn off your computer, and then later open it again later when it's finished. I mean, you don't have to have it open, it'll keep importing by itself. That's probably why CK said "I restarted the process and it took only 15 minutes", he didn't restart it, it was going on all along on SixApart's data servers. Or maybe he did restart it and I'm crazy. But I don't see any way to restart this thing once it's going. On an unrelated note, I love how Typepad decided I'm Japanese and sent me to the Japanese version of the site. Vox was never so intelligent.

  15. I'm thinking that TypePad would be best? Just reading Vox's comments on their trials of moving Vox blogs there seems that it would be best suited as to not lose too much content I'm hoping. I don't think it'll work as well but I'm trying to keep positive.

  17. I've seen one blog so far on TypePad which used to be on Vox and their photos all seem to be there so now I'm thinking that only non posted photos wouldn't make the transfer to TypePad? Still not sure but all of the photos here are in posts so I'm hoping I wouldn't lose any of them because then it would just be me going "..blah blah blah…" and who would want to read that XD. Thank you~* Solo!

  18. I saw that you moved to WordPress…I'm still not decided yet as Vox said that they tested the move from Vox to both WordPress and TypePad and that I would lose a lot of the content here if I'm understanding them correctly :/. One Voxer moved his blog to both WordPress and TypePad so I guess it wouldn't hurt to try =). It's going to be odd with everyone going to different places as Vox was much more of a community in a sense and I don't think any other blogging sites have that same appeal =(.

  19. I think Vox created a new free TypePad service for the mass migration there that's expected now but I'm still now sure of a few things so I haven't tried to move the blog anywhere yet. I was reading that as long as your photos are in posts that they'd make the transition so I'm hoping that's true as every photo in this blog is also in a post somewhere as I've never uploaded photos without using them in posts. Hoping I won't need to use Flickr if this is true =).

  20. Oh I think you can get an account for free as I just learned that both Vox and TypePad are owned by the same entity so I'm hoping the transition is pain free =)!!

  22. Aww that can't be true!! I'm of little reason to stay…will miss the community~like features here though as I don't think TypePad will be as warm as a place =(. So I'm thinking that I won't need a Flickr account for photos if every photo that's in a post will move to TypePad in the export process? Luckily every photo here is in a post somewhere as I've never uploaded any photos without the intention of using them =). I'm just worried about my videos which are uploaded directly to Vox and my audio tracks here…they're also all in posts but will they move to TypePad also I'm wondering. If they don't it would really make the majority of everything here pretty meaningless and that would really hurt me wanting to keep this blog as it would just lose too much I think.

I've seen that photos make the transition to TypePad as long as they're in posts I think. ??? I hope that's true as every photo on this site is in a post somewhere as I've never uploaded a photo without the intention using them in a post so maybe that's lucky and I won't have to open a Flickr account?..as that would complicate things so much =/. I'm not sure when I'll try to export process just yet, would just be sad if all of my videos and audio disappear as the majority of posts here would then become pretty meaningless which would then make this blog meaningless =(.

Ah, come on -_-' the community features in Vox are meaningless, you're the one who makes the community. Everybody is here to read your blog, if you go to Typepad, everyone will follow you there. No big deal. Please begin exporting as soon as possible. My experience says that once you know you're going to lose all your data, you should move it somewhere safe very very fast. The only thing that might not make it are the videos, and you won't know about that until you do it. And in any case, even if you make the transition and the videos don't work, there's nothing else you could have done. It is sad, but you don't really have a choice you know, the videos and everything else will be gone in a month. You just have to save what you can.You won't lose contact with anybody while the export is happening; as they will tell you in the page, once you start the process, you don't need to wait for it to end. Just close the page and go do whatever you want. The export goes on in their computers, not yours. Once it's done, your blog will be online, and you don't even have to return to the page of the exporting process; all it has is a link to automatically post in Vox saying you've moved your blog to Typepad. In fact, if you're curious, you can just visit your Typepad blog while it is exporting and see how the incomplete version is looking like. The whole process should take a minute for you to begin it, and then you forget it until the next day when it'll be done. Probably done, I don't know. Your blog is the biggest on Vox, so it might take some time.

I was just wondering about our sidebars on TypePad, like if we'd be able to customize them like we could here? Oh, I see. From what I saw I think it starts to export from the most recent posts, so hum… I've no idea what it would do. Probably skip anything new you post here, I guess. SixApart says they'll redirect any visitors to your blog to the new Typepad address automatically after the 30th. That should be especially useful for people coming here from Google. Anyway, I doubt it'd take more than a day. You could just take a one day vacation from posting? =P And then after you just start posting over there.Wordpress isn't difficult to understand, and neither is Typepad. Seriously, there's wide consensus as to how a text box should look like on the web, and all these sites use it. All you really need to learn is the new location of the "Post" button. Sure I'm being silly, but that's the point. They all have more features, so they look like there's a lot more stuff to make they work, but there's nothing stopping you from ignoring all the complicated looking things. Will you be moving to Typepad now? Maybe to morningberryz.typepad.com/blog ? I'll take a look over there in a few minutes ~

png is a format that tries to keep the image exactly the same. it compresses, but only so much as to not lose any quality at all. jpg is a bit more aggressive =P it’s discards a lot of information that doesn’t make too much of a difference to the human eye, and tries to make the smaller file possible without losing too much quality. take a few screens and convince yourself jpg is good enough for this use ^_^

There’s an option below the comment box when someone that’s not you first comments in a post, saying “Notify me of follow-up comments via email” =p you don’t see that because you get notifications for any comment in your blog.

  73. Today maiZe @ IW sent me an e~mail and she was surprised that I needed to pay for more memory here, she says that her WP account is unlimited and free :O??? Maybe I opened up the wrong type of WP account I wonder? It says to add any videos I’ll need to purchase an upgrade for that too.

She’s probably getting confused between WordPress.com and WordPress.org. Let me explain…

WordPress is the name of a blogging platform that anyone can download for free, install on their own web server and run a blog. The official site for this project is WordPress.org. WordPress is also the name of a service that hosts and runs blogs for people, using the WordPress software. That is this site, WordPress.com. maiZe is running WordPress on her own server at http://www.intlwota.com, or maybe someone else is running it and letting her use it, I have no idea.

You could ask them to host your blog, they’d probably be okay with that. I think she offered it already on your blog. Other than that, no, it’d cost you more to pay for a server to host WordPress yourself than paying for extras here.

  75. She offered to host my blog before I moved it, thinking about it now I should have gone to her host site maybe?

  77. I’m going in circles here aren’t I?….creating blogs I don’t want and funny I already spent $89.95 on this blog and I may just delete it. I think I need to go to chat and ask her some things first. Have you been in #wotachat before?
