~Aiko, one of Japan’s most beloved♥ artists returns with a new single after nearly a years absence

Aiko's lastest single~* "Modorenai Ashita" was just released on February 3rd!!…and while my very first purchase of her music dates back to her 2000 album release, her then second album "Sakura no ki no shita" (which sold in excess of 1 million copies!!!) even from those early beginnings aiko was completely composing~* all of her own music♪~ and lyrics which adds something really special to how fans are able to embrace especially her lyrical content~ and much like how fans related so much to Sakai Izumi of Zard in her personal lyrics, aiko's fanbase~♥ flows very much as deeply~ ^ ^。

A career which has now spanned over 13 years aiko remains as one of Japan's most popular artists~* both expressed in polls and her overall sales~* as till now none of her previous 26 singles has sold less than 82,000 copies with the majority (16 singles) being above 100,000 in sales with notable singles "Hanabi" reaching above 200,000 and "Boyfriend" selling in excess of half a million copies~* at her peak♥. Most recently she also just made another appearance on this New Year's Kouhaku Utagassen a clip which I previously shared but have embedded here in celebration of her new single release \(^o^)/☆。。。。it's been nearly a year since her last single (;´□`)!!!which was "milk" which also sold above 100,000 copies~*. What says even more about her fanbase♥ can be seen in her album sales since her debut with "Chiisana marui kojitsu" reaching 130,000 in sales, "Sakura ki no shita"…over 1.4 million, "Natsufuku"…979,000, "Aki, soba ni iru yo"…497,000, "Akatsuki no love letter"…516,000, "Yume no naka no massugu na michi"…469,000, "Kanojo"…456,000 and 2008's "Himitsu" reaching sales of over 460,000 copies~* (*´∀`*)♪。

aiko's releases can be ordered here at Cdjapan.

aiko's releases can be ordered here at YesAsia.

aiko's releases can be ordered here at HMV Japan.

The abstractly titled "Modorenai Ashita" ("the tomorrow (I) cannot return to") was offered in a first pressing which includes a lightly textured glossy liner notes/photo booklet along with what was noted as a "first pressing color tray"…that which I now imagine must be referring to the blue colored jewel case "tray" (。ーωー。)。

While beginning to attempt to describe aiko's♥ most unique vocals~* I quickly think of the expressions…..unguarded, sincere and warm♥ and when it comes to her delivery of said vocals~*, hers is a style in which at times her very phrasing can be somewhat lightly paralleled to that of a "be~bop" artists' as she expresses in flavorful waves and rhythms of lyrical content…some of which can be heard in the chorus portions of the coupling with track "Do you think about me?" which can be clicked on just below~. Now while I'm not meaning to say it's that of Billie Holiday..it's a light parallel for sure but truly a unique rhythmic styling all her own~ ^ ^!Much of aiko's lyrics also express so much in "real~life" type experiences, making her that much more relate~able to fans o(*´∀`)o゛♥。

~Please enjoy listening to one of Japan's most celebrated artists in her latest single release with the complete tracks "Modorenai Ashita", "Do you think about me?" and "Kisu ga meguru" ("(when it) comes to kissing") o(*´∀`)o゛♪~♪。。。。

U~n! \(^o^)/☆。。。and yay~! for your amazing diversity in music loves~♥ and knowledge….I'm just a bit surprised at times as some really popular artists such as Fukuyama Masaharu♥, Kome Kome Club, Ueto Aya, Princess Princess and many others don't really get any interest at times but still I enjoy sharing about my interest in their music♪ here o(*´∀`)o゛♥。。。thank you~* Zush。

Never heard of aiko before, but the trakcs on this single are amazing. Why havent I heard of her before? If she is this popluar and sell so many singles..? I dont know where i have beenI wanna describe why I like them, but get stuck when it comes to words..Her sound (vocal and music wise) feel rich and alive. Does that make sense? Her voice is warm and soft, and is very pleaseant listening too. Thanks for sharing this single, I am gonna go look for it now 😀

I've been really into aiko recently! I randomly discovered her by coming across the PV to "Hatsukoi" on YouTube. Still a favorite of mine! Her new single sounds lovely as well. 🙂

  7. Aiko has gained such a large fan following in Japan but perhaps her much more low~key demeanor has kept her a bit of a *secret* from many international fans of J~music I wonder..and recently she's been on a sort of hiatus from releases~* too ^ ^。U~n (*´∀`*)。。Aiko really does possess such a warm~* feel in her vocals and you immediately know it's her as her phrasing, tone and nuances are so uniquely her♥ too! I'm so happy~* Aiko has sparked your interest o(*´∀`)o゛♥。

  8. Yay~! "Hatsukoi" is a wonderful song too~!!…and I can see how it captured your attention~* っo(*´∀`)o!。。Aiko is so unique ne~, I mean I know it can be said of many artists but with Aiko it just seems to run even deeper in a sense of her style and as she's a composer/lyricist too it's that much more endearing as her words are hers along with her melodies ♪ ♪~♥。For a long time I've felt a bit alone in loving♥ Aiko…but not anymore~ ありがとう~o(*´∀`)o゛。

Totally get what you mean MB. There's something special there eh. 🙂 Even compared to other singer-songwriter types in J-pop, there's no one quite like her — and I can tell this from just one listen-through or two of her catalogue. Yeah, I still need to listen to her much more. Actually, I'm predicting that she'll lead my playcount stats before too long. She's that good!

  10. Somehow I think many Japanese fans connect with Aiko so differently too~ and a lot of it comes from her lyrics♥ but also so much of her style and sound is so unique ne~ (*´∀`*)。。。as she's not quite mainstream and yet she attracts very much that level of affection~*. I'm really overjoyed♥ to know both you and Zush as Aiko fans as living in an Aiko♥ box being outside of Japan kept me from writing about her before and just not knowing how it would be received…lol that sounds odd of me, what am I trying to say??? Okay I'll shut up already lol~ (*´艸`)!!Also, Henkka um….oh wait I can't say that in public (。ーωー。) ♪ ♪~。。。。。

Artists doing their own lyrics (and songs) really adds a new level of appreciation for them eh. 🙂 You'd usually take it for granted with most Western music but it seems more like the exception to the rule in J-pop! It's very cool aiko does everything herself. Actually… while she's a little older than me, I might have a bit of a crush on her… *hides* Oh, so basically the non-Japanese aiko fanbase is comprised of one MB and two Finns? 🙂 And we're living in Aiko♥ box? Haha, I'll go with that. 🙂 And don't be silly MB, you should write about who you want, regardless of how widely-known they are. Actually, I think many look to you exactly for introducing new artists to them (me included), so keep at it!Huh, something you can't say in public?! 何それ!やっぱり変態だね~♪ ヽ(゜Д゜;)ノ!!

  12. It really does~ as they become so much more personal♥ and at times you wonder whether real life experiences are being written in somewhere in those songs~. E~hhhhh? aww Henkka & Aiko —–ng — – t—~♥ sorry what am I saying (。ーωー。)。。。Um…lol as far as I know so far! ( ̄▽ ̄) Oh I'm so happy~*!!! U~n I'll continue to write about even lesser known artists/idols♥ ^ ^。Me?!!!! (*´艸`)!!!。。。他の人を思っているね~♥♥♥(。ーωー。)!
