It's Berryz Koubou's very first double a-side!! And in true double a-side fashion we're treated to pvs for both songs which is reaching into somewhat uncharted territory for one of H!P's mainstay groups!
Limited edition Type A's DVD includes the "Close Up Ver." pv for the upbeat "Seishun Bus Guide" while LE Type B's DVD includes the "Dance Shot Ver." pv for "Rival"….a pure blooded J-Pop song♪♪~.
A sort of unwritten rule for double a-side's over the years has usually lended to a distict show of diversity and here Tsunku has penned two very different and distinctly flavored compositions in "Seishun Bus Guide"'s dance/r&b's outer influences and "Rival"'s sweet♥ and strictly "J-Pop" sound~. Songs like "Rival" truly remind of just why I first began listening to J-Pop and why it attracted me so much from the very beginning.
Japan like so many other cultures has over time evolved musically in the sense of becoming attuned to many outer influences and much of their musical landscape today is occupied by music which has really moved past its own identity….for example American R&B is heard largely in so many artist's releases as well as many European influences as well~.
And with this in mind I would love to thank Tsunku for "Rival"….as this is truly "J-Pop" in it's ＊purest＊ form. ＼(^o^)／☆
As BK's pv DVD singles for this release won't be available until June 17th for "Rival" and June 24th for "Seishun Bus Guide" as both songs will be receiving separate pv DVD releases (a really exciting new release format for H!P!!…and I remember when I was pre-ordering these pv DVD singles a few weeks ago as I was so puzzled as to why there were two separate DVDs being released for this one single and on different dates….but now I'm like kyaaa! this is really awesome for BK! =) ), I'm yet to watch any of the original versions but I'm really loving this new trend of H!P offering alternate versions on their CD single releases so here we have the close up version for "Seisun Bus Guide" and a most wonderful dance shot version for "Rival." Close up versions are often sometimes understated affairs and it's really quite difficult for such a format to capture the feeling of any type of upbeat track for the most part but that being said….I do love this futuristic space like uniform thing that BK has going on in their close up version of "Seishun Bus Guide." And it's so wonderful for BK that Tsunku and UFI has allowed them to mature both visually and musically….perhaps leaving behind some of their somewhat maybe too childlike releases in recent months which have drawn mixed reactions amongst fans. "Dakishimete Dakishimete" appeared to be a turning point in BK's image heading towards mature and only time will tell if they've really settled upon this new plateau. =)
"Rival" takes on a much less somber approach visually and just seeing this dance shot version makes me so giddy~! Σ(￣◇￣*)！！！I can't wait to see what they have in store with the original version!!! The dance choreography captures the elation and fun of "Rival" so immaculately and no playful nuances are left unturned in this one! And if you ♥ air guitar you've come to the right place….as even the almighty Air Band has nothing on BK!! Momo &Riichan take center stage in the almost play like choreography and all solo lines are worked in so well by accentuating each member's presence in seamless fashion throughout. This is idol choreography at its best!! Just so in ~♥~ with this song!!! o(*´∀｀)o゛♥ It's *perfection*. ＾ ＾
