Nacchi's latest concert DVD "Abe Natsumi concert tour 2008 aki~Angelic~" was just released on January 28th and has a running time of approximately 115 minutes….recorded at Nakano Sunplaza on November 9th, 2008.
The live band which includes talented musicians at guitar, keyboards, bass, drums, sax and percussion and unlike some venues for idols/artists this stage was definitely built to accommodate and highlight the musicians which drape Nacchi with never before heard improvisations of familiar tracks within her musical catalog.
Even from the very beginning with the concert's opening a special effort is made to place the band right up front and center to the audience as a brief but wonderful instrumental introduction is presented before Nacchi even appears on the stage. The significance of their presence is further highlighted at about 1 hour through the concert as during one of Nacchi's wardrobe changes a pretty amazing and sweet♪♪ instrumental rendition of her single "Iki wo kasanemashou" is performed by these amazing musicians! And where medleys are usually not my personal forte, here having a live band on stage with Nacchi creates a much more seamless and creative transition from song to song as Nacchi's "Angelic special medley" takes center stage in a most lively presentation.
After watching a concert like this and seeing how the musicians interact with an idol/singer and just witnessing how much they add to a live concert with new arrangements that thrill the audience by going beyond the bounderies of a pre-recorded track presenting the audience with amazing never before heard versions that surely outshine those found on albums & singles…..I think just about any H!P fan would then seriously ponder as to why groups such as Momusu, Berryz Koubou & C-ute have yet to be graced with the presence of live musicians on stage with them during their large scale concert tours. The benefits are priceless and the overall concert experience excels whatever a pre-recorded track can throw into the mix no matter how great it is. And simply stated….in the past isn't this one of the main reasons why we chose to attend "live" concerts?…..live being the notable keyword here.
So with amazing new versions and takes on all her songs presented on this night, a well paced set with always endearing MCs!…and really cute outfits (her black skirt and top are my absolute favorite!♥ =) ), Nacchi's "Angelic" night of music and stage performance ranks up there with the best that H!P has produced thus far matching and in some musical moments even exceeding those of Ayaya as the musicianship and stage chemistry are amazing throughout.
I've chosen just four performances to include here which are amongst my favorites from this DVD as to not show too much or take away any possible joy others may experience when viewing this concert in its entirety. ^ ^
(Depending on connection speeds some of the videos may take a short while to buffer properly.)
The "~Angelic~" performance of "Koi no hana" turns this familiar single pop delight into a most beautiful & lovely jazz rendition which I think actually trumps the recorded single version by far! Nacchi's vocal nuances are immaculate here~♥.
When I first removed this DVD from its bubble wrapping the very first song that caught my eye was the inclusion of Yes~! my most favorite Nacchi song of all time…."Sora LIFE GOES ON." ………(゜∀゜)………。♥ This for me is one of the most precious and beloved b-sides ever! =) As are with the other performances, the improvised solos are so moving and often times breathtaking….especially when considering the familiarity we all have with the studio versions which we've heard countless times before. I love the emotions that this song presents and while lyrically beautiful to the furthest extent it's this memorable and touching melody that wins me over time and time again every time I hear this song♪♪.
And to end things here, "Datte ikitekanakucha" gets a very lively improvisational makeover….and again it's so much more amazing than the recorded version! And Nacchi's outfit here is so cute~! ^ ^
