Berryz工房の 桜ー>入学式, translated. :)

桜ー>入学式 (Sakura->Nyuugakushiki), the final track on Berryz工房の ニューアルバム 4th愛のなんちゃら指数 is in the running for my favorite Hello! Project song of 2007! It's only late August right now so I know it's still early and things can change from now till the end of the year. Still I've been listening to this song a lot recently and I'm just in love with it!! From the musical arrangement which includes the beautiful cascading guitar riff which opens the track that brings the visual of falling cherry blossoms to the slightly uneasiness of the verses sung beautifully with emotion (for example the lyrics "atarashii yume atarashii mirai aa tokimeku yokan ga suru.") and how it all escalates to the uplifting chorus full of optomism! this song really has found a place in my heart. It is with this inspiration that I began to translate this song on Sunday morning for I needed to have a deeper understanding of its lyrics to bring my bond with this song full circle. Okay this song's meaning isn't anything too deep but it includes an anticipation, a frame of mind, and an outlook that I believe anyone can relate to. The title means "Cherry Blosson-> School Entrance Ceremony" but within its lyrics I believe an almost universal analogy can be found which can be related to one's own personal feelings in a like situation of slight uneasiness, hope, & dreams of a new beginning in life.

While I'm definitely no expert in translating lyrics as I find it easier to understand someone speaking Japanese instead, I did try my best here for with any less effort I wouldn't have bothered at all. The real challenge is how literal to take the meaning of some of the words and phrases. The context is always a challenge as well at some points. For example the line "hitsuji darakene" which literally means "to be covered with sheep (wool?)" was a bit puzzling and I tried to take in context of the rest of the surrounding lyrics although I know it can have a very different meaning if thought of in a different sense. "Tonai" which is written in hiragana was another puzzling one and the only definition I know of for this word is: (within) the Tokyo Metropolitan area.

I hope this will help to enhance the listening experience with this song and perhaps you will come to love it as much as I do although I know that's quite a stretch! 😛 I wish I could upload the studio version of this song myself but my dinosaur (computer) keeps me from doing this so I've included a live clip of a performance of this song from their Sakura Manaki concert DVD. It's not a favorite live performance of mine and that's why I'd prefer the studio version instead but being unable to upload that I only had this to go with. If anyone can link the album's mp3 of this song it would be greatly appreciated! 🙂

This next clip is a fan's upload which combines footage from Risakochan's DVD magazine with Risakochan & Miya poking fun at how they used to look (especially Risakochan) using pics from the CD booklet from Berryz Koubou's debut album accompanied with the live backing track from their Sakura Mankai concert. I just thought this was funny so I included it also. 😛

While the studio version would probably be better I hope you enjoy these! 🙂

Although I'm supposed to depart early tomorrow morning,
why can't I seem to fall asleep this evening?

Atarashii yume

A new dream
A new future
Ah a premonition of prosperity has come over me

It's already past midnight
I've been counting sheep endlessly haven't I (I'm covered with sheep aren't I)
Well, this night is the same (Well, this night too)
Perhaps it may be nice from time to time

Mado wo akete
Sora wo nagamete miru
Aa subarashii
Haru no sora
Shinkokyuu shite
Yume wo hitotsu futatsu
For me & u

I open the window
Watch the view of the sky
Ah, the wonderful Spring sky
I breathe deeply
One dream, two dreams
for me & u

This is a pretty accurate translation from what I can tell! I am also way better and translating spoken Japanese than written Japanese…or lyrics in Romaji (Or whatever :P) I can't post right now! Were you having problems earlier..? I am frusterblated D:But anyway, thanks for the translation! I like it better now that I have a better understanding of what they're singing.

  5. Hotaru sometimes it can be tricky with lyrics as they might be using symbolism or some sort of idiom that shouldn't be translated too literally. The line about being covered in sheep seems to be those kind of lyrics. I was having problems uploading anything a few days ago and it lasted all day long but then seemed to resolve itself. Vox didn't know what the problem was as I contacted them too. I'm happy that you enjoyed my attempt at a song translation. 🙂 Also it's good that you can post again!
