モーニング娘。ベスト

Recently I mentioned to Paul how at the end of the year I'd make a Momusu favorite song list and it would be updated each year by just adding to it. These lists took weeks to complete as I'd be switching CDs and playing and replaying songs comparing them to one another in an attempt to rank them in my favorite order. After awhile it became too time consuming and difficult to do so I just stopped. It had become kind of like an end of the year pop quiz with tons of questions. lol. Here's the first list that I made which was completed on October 20th, 2002. Why October? Heheh at this time it was an new idea so I just did them then as the idea came up and it happened to be October. The next lists that I made were all done in January which of course makes more sense. 😛

As you will notice although it's a Momusu favorite song list there are H!P units and solo artists included here. The rule we went by was that if a unit contained a member who's in Momusu or is a former member of Momusu then they're songs could be included. The same rule applied to solo artists. If they were a former member of Momusu then they're songs could be included as well. With that in mind go back to October 2002 and out of all of the H!P songs with Momusu ties here are the ones that I chose to include in my favorites list. Looking at it now there are of course some changes that I'd make like not including Gocchin's "Ai no bakayarou." lol. But I like having these as they show how things were back then at that moment. It's pretty interesting to look at now. This first list included 93 songs and my last list which was made in 2005 includes 188 songs. For the most part the songs remained in their relative positions to one another and new songs were added around them each year as I'd decide where they rank in relation to one another. This was really tough to complete each year and that's why I had to stop making them. 🙂

Yes there would be a few changes that I'd make today! Besides taking out "Ai no bakayarou" from this list some of the Minimoni songs would be higher and well there are a few more changes that I'd make today. But that would defeat the whole purpose of this list. It represents how things were back then and that's the beauty of having these lists whether it be member lists or song lists. My highest ranking solo Momusu member song back in 2002 was Nakazawa Yuko's "Koi no kioku" at #12. This was the most perfect song for her to sing at her graduation concert! It was such a great emotional moment! I still love this song and always will. I'll post the subsequent year's lists later as I continued up until 2005.

Wow, thats a pretty long and detailed (ish? I don't know) list. I made a list like quite a while ago, but I was only including Morning Musume Singles. If I did something like that, I would probably pass out of "I can't decide! I like them all!"-ness.

  2. Ya know, I had considered making a list of the top 100 favorite songs of mine, but wow… -Would I list them as I thought about them, or would I rank them as 1st best, 2nd best, etc…?
Or, a list of my favorite musical artists…?
    -Naw, I think songs first…
I should think about this some more….
    KEWL idea there!!!

  3. Hotaru you're sure right about that! It was agonizing at times trying to rank the songs in order and even after I thought I was done, when looking over the list there were several revisions to make. Like wait a minute…that song should be higher! lol. Still after finishing one of these it was pretty satisfying after spending so much time completing it. At the end of last year I did a mini version. A top 10 or 12 favorite song list which covered only the songs released over the last year. My favorite H!P from 2006. I think it's posted here somewhere.

  4. Dark Knightingale it would be interesting to see your top 100 songs! In order would be much more difficult but I think it would mean more. One thing I learned while making these types of lists is that it usually doesn't make sense to number the page beforehand as you'll probably be doing a lot of scratching songs off and moving them and before you know it the page looks like disaster area all scribbled and the numbers on the side don't line up to anything anymore. lol. There's so much movement going on as you progress with your lists as you begin adding songs between songs and after you play a particular song you go…wait a minute…that doesn't belong there! 🙂 I hope you do make one as I'd like to see it! It could take weeks to finish but the finished product is a nice reward. Plus along the way you learn something about your likes and taste in various styles of music.

  5. Very, very cool! I appreciate the fact that you understand the work involved on such a "simple" thing, like a list. -Really isn't so simple after all, but enjoyable when it's done.
Your respose here has seriously increased my desire to create, and post such a list.
    It reminds me….
When I lived in Florida, the radio station would have it's listeners to pick four songs that they'd really, really like to hear tonight, and call in. -The one with the most interesting choices (and interesting reason for choosing them) got to host their four songs on the air. (-I used to "win" this a lot, as I would always pick four which fit in to a particular theme.) The radio station presented this as a "Four-gasm", meaning a four-song JAM picked and hosted by a lucky listener, who would introduce each song.
-For example, my kind of four-song list would go like this:
    *Dream Warriors – Dokken
    *These Dreams – Heart
    *Middletown Dreams – Rush
*Dream Until Tommorow – Lynch Mob
And, the obvious theme is (of course) is "Dreams", and because I just wanted to dream for a few minutes.
I liked this, mostly because it made me stretch my creativity every night.
I think I'll do a nice long list of songs, and include the occasional comment on why I chose this song, or what it had meant at some point in my life. -I'll figure out a way to do this right.
-It IS going to be a chore, which will take some good time, but I think I'll do it because I know you would appreciate the effort.
Give me some time. -I'll work on one.

Morningberryz-Heh heh, I remember back when we made those initial lists, I made a boo-boo and included Heike Michiyo-chan's "Tsuyoku Naranakuchya…ne" in my Top Ten, to which you and Saburo both glared at me and said "She's not (and has never been) in Morning Musume! That's not eligible for the list!" I tried to argue that technically it HAD been on MM's second album, but in the end I didn't convince anyone.

  7. Dark Knightingale I'm happy to have inspired you to create a favorite song list. As you love and write your own music too I know it's going to be a very diverse list with a lot of thought put into it! That's a really great idea that the radio station had! I've never heard of anything like it before. They must have gotten a ton of calls as I'd imagine a lot of people would love to get to host songs which they picked, live on the air. I like that 4 song selection with the theme of dreams which has a Dokken connection bookending them. I really look forward to seeing your song list and who gets the top spot! Take your time and it's best done leisurely when you have spare time to relax and listen to music. It doesn't matter how long it takes and I hope it's fun to do. Most importantly don't feel any pressure with where you place songs as you can always change your list down the road. 🙂 It represents now and it'll be good to be able to look back on it many years later.

  8. zdorama I remember that! Heike Michiyo's song is a great one but…lol. I haven't listened to that song in ages. I think I'll put it on a disc now so I can play it in the car along with other H!P songs and some new Arashi tracks. Thank you for reminding me about that song! Awesome it is! I've been speaking like Yoda lately. lol.

  9. Very cool the way zdorama and you noticed the Dokken connection as bookends! As obvious as I think it is, so many wouldn't have even noticed it!
I'll certainly let you all know when I get the list together!

  10. Dark Knightingale it's going to be really great to read and I think that you'll learn a bit about yourself as you see what rises to the top. Don't rush though. Please take your time. 🙂
