Berryz工房のニューシングル 告白の噴水広場。

While browsing the CD shelves at at music store here there it was! Berryz Koubou's new single "Kokuhaku no funsui hiroba" (try saying that quickly 5 times! lol.) in both regular and limited editions. Now while I did preorder the limited edition version through Cd Japan awhile back I didn't order the regular edition. There's something about it being there at the right moment and the bonus card that's included. lol. They only had 1 copy of each and I didn't hesitate to pick up the regular edition and take it to the register to purchase along with my magazine. While this single was released on June 27th my limited edition won't arrive till about the middle of next month as it's part of an order which contains releases that won't be released until that time. So another incentive was getting to listen to these new songs sooner and add them to an mp3 collection for enjoyment in the car. This release also includes a serial numbered event card for the new release event which occured on June 28th (Japan is about a day ahead) that I wasn't able to attend. lol. 😛

The packaging is no frills except for of course the cute card that's included but this jacket has a different picture from the limited edition so that's a good thing as well and how I love these outfits! I love orange or maybe I'm just saying that because they're wearing orange. lol.

The song itself I had only previously heard a little snippet of when it plays during the credits of HM@ episodes and from that I couldn't get any real feel for the song. As soon as I got back to my car it went straight into the player and I have to say that with all the negative things I've been hearing some people say about this song I loved it from the very first listen. At first I couldn't place it but I finally figured it out, the music in the beginning sounds like an old fashioned Japanese t.v. drama. Go ahead close your eyes and imagine it. You can now envision a nostalgic show with beautiful kimonos! lol. And I mean that in a good way!! You'll have to have seen an old Japanese drama to know what I mean and if you have I hope you get that feeling too. 🙂 This song's chorus reminds me of the credits rolling in said type of drama and that great sounding keyboard riff has nostalgic written all over it. It really captures this aura. It's that keyboard riff with the orchestration. This song evokes that kind of a feeling from me but enough about the nostalgia. The song itself is a simple one but with the chorus comes the hook that reels me in. I love it when Risakochan sings her solo lines as since "VERY BEAUTY" was released her voice has seemed to change a bit. Whether you like it or not Risakochan is really going for it all the time with her vocals. I haven't seen a performance of this song yet so going by the sound of their voices it sounds like the first verse starts with Miya, Risakochan, Momo, and then Yurinachan. If I'm wrong then slap me if you can reach! lol. The big 4 are back together! With their last single "VERY BEAUTY" Momo was left without of her usual solo lines and it's good to hear that she's back in the mix where she belongs! This song has an almost lazy feel to it with that touch of sweet…nostalgia…of Japanese dramas of the long ago past. That keyboard riff haunts me with sweetness. Sorry I can't stop thinking of that as it plays right now at home in the living room. Cue those drama credits…and make sure it's an old fashioned drama about love and devotion. 🙂

I almost forgot to mention the coupling with song "Seishun Oodouri." This song has a lively grand sound to it and this one took a few listens to get me liking it. Once again the verses are of the simple sort but it is the chorus that opens up the song and gives it its hook albeit not anywhere as good as the title track "kokuhaku no funsai hiroba." Still a decent song that may be a good one in concert. Miya has the strongest voice, Momo the most unusual and adorable, Yurinachan the most pure and sweet sounding, and Risakochan's makes me smile. 🙂

p.s. The "Alo-Hello! Niigaki Risa DVD" post which follows this one is marked as being posted yesterday right now but it was actually posted today and started yesterday (which is why it wasn't visible till now) but I didn't have enough time to finish it as I had to choose between 3 1/2 hours of sleep till going to work this morning which was all the time I had left for sleep or continuing and finishing that post with less sleep than that. In the end sleep won and therefore I finished writing it today. The pictures is what is so time consuming but the text takes awhile too and being that this computer is so old that doesn't help any either. lol. 🙂

  2. The CD itself with the jar on it is really cute. Anyway, good review! I've always thought of this song as sounding good for a drama ending.

  3. Craig I know how much you love BK too! And that website address's name that you posted is wacky indeed! 🙂

  4. Hotaru now that you mention it that jar on the CD is quite cute! I think they should release Berryz Jam in 7 different flavors with one for each member with flavors such as: Blueberryz (Saki), Raspberryz (Maasa), Strawberryz (Chinami), Cranberryz (Miya), Mochaberryz (Yurina), Adoraberryz (Momo), and キュートberryz (Risako). 🙂 And if they add new members we still have Boysenberryz and Gooseberryz but I don't think anyone would want those names for their flavor. lol. 🙂

  5. coinlockersbaby heheh Hotaru mentioned the jar too! It's a cute touch! I'm happy that you also think it has a drama type sound. I'm listening to the single again today and it's no longer just a BK song that I really like but has now become one of my most favorite songs by them. I'm thinking top 10!

I really like the packaging for this CD, almost as much as I like the outfits they've got on. I'm still not the biggest fan of the single, although I have to admit it is growing on me with each listen, but I don't think I'll like it more than Very Beauty.I'll have to search the net for some Japanese Dramas (I think Veoh has some up) and check out the similarities.

  7. Paul yes the jacket pics are really nice and the orange outfits are too cute! Yes "VERY BEAUTY" has a melody that's hard to top and with the Beatles influence in the instrumentation it'll will probably remain superior to "Kokuhaku no funsai hiroba" for me too but that's still too early to say for sure yet. I hope you can find an old fashioned Japanese drama as some of these have that sound I'm referring to. The newer dramas won't connect this feeling at all.
